Enable Xformers in Stable Diffusion Automatic1111

Introduction

Hello there and welcome!

In this video, I’m going to walk you through the quick and easy way to enable Xformers in your Stable Diffusion Web UI Automatic1111.

This is the set and forget method, you just need to do this once and then Xformers gets enabled every time you launch Automatic1111.

Enabling Xformers is probably the easiest way to give a significant speed boost to your image generation times.

I’ll be enabling Xformers on my local install of Automatic1111, on my Windows 11 PC running a NVidia GPU.

Enable Xformers

We’re going to add an argument command to the webui-user.bat file.

Navigate to your stable-diffusion-webui folder.

Scroll down to find the webui-user.bat file.

Right click on this file and select Open in Notepad.

Directly after the “set COMMANDLINE_ARGS=”, type in “–xformers”.

That’s it. Easy. Save the file.

Checking Xformers Is Enabled

Now that we’ve enabled Xformers, let’s check that everything’s good.

If you’ve got Automatic1111 open, then close the browser UI and the Command Prompt window.

Then double-click the webui-user.bat file to relaunch Automatic1111.

Keep an eye on the syntax in the Command Prompt window.

You’ll eventually see a line that says, “Launching Web UI with arguments: –xformers”.

If you see this line, without any error messages following it, then it looks like everything is good so far.

Once the Automatic1111 UI opens in your browser, scroll down to the very bottom of the page, and you’ll see, in tiny letters, versions of different components and packages.

In the middle of the list, you should see Xformers and the version that you’re running.

The first time you enable Xformers, the latest version of Xformers will be pulled down and installed.

That’s it. Easy.
